About Kompass - History

The Kompass system is based on franchises. Kompass International is the owner of the trade name, the system and all the publishing rights. Kompass International grants franchises locally on a contract basis. The franchisee must be able to introduce the system authoritatively in a specific country and exploit the system commercially with success. In many countries it operates together with internationally-known firms: with Bonnier in Scandinavia, Germany and Hungary, for example, with Reed Elsevier in the UK, China, Singapore and South Africa, and with the French and the Italian Telecom in France, Italy, Spain and the Benelux countries.

The international distribution of Kompass on all media is coordinated and regulated by Kompass International.

The core is the classification system, based on the type of technology used in the various companies. It is ideal for all purposes in the fields of technology transfer, investment and trade. The Kompass classification system contains about 50,000 products and services. It is designed so that diversification in technology can be reflected immediately. A central classification unit, composed of a group of technology specialists, is continuously working on the updating of the system. The Kompass classification is translated into 38 languages.

This flexibility and continual updating make it a most useful tool to keep track of the fast moving developments in the field of manufacturing in all countries, as the system covers not only large companies, but also small and medium-size enterprises. Kompass is recognised internationally as an important tool for the development of small and medium-sized companies, assisting them in finding the right suppliers and promoting their products.
